Job Title: Accounting Manager
FLSA Classification: Exempt—Full-time
Reports To: Finance Director
The Accounting Manager is responsible for performing full cycle accounting and directing the accounting activities of the department. This includes the production of monthly financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and internal controls designed to mitigate risk, ensuring the accuracy of the organization’s reported financial results, and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Responsible for day-to-day financial transactions and supervising a team responsible for billing and collections, accounts payable, payroll, and month-end close.
Conducts performance evaluations, training, mentoring, and assignment of workflow.
Performs grant billing, routine and ad hoc reporting analysis, tracking, and monitoring of grants and budgets.
Provide extensive account analysis on various balance sheet and P&L accounts.
Preparation of the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reporting requirements in accordance with GAAP.
Forecast annual revenue, participate in quarterly budget meetings, and assist with fiscal year budget process.
Respond to vendors, external clients, and internal customers.
Assist with fiscal year-end audit.
Maintain fixed assets and prepaid schedules.
Maintain current policies and procedures.
Manage the 1099 process.
Make and implement recommendations to improve accounting processes and/or procedures.
Collaborate with the executive team, board of directors, and program service staff to provide business level Finance information that can be used to achieve mission.
Establish internal controls and guidelines for accounting transactions.
Perform various other duties and functions as assigned by the Director of Finance.
Education, Experience and Skills Required:
Masters’ Degree in Accounting or Finance. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is a plus.
Minimum 5 years of full cycle accounting experience, plus knowledge of MIP/Abila accounting software preferred, but not required.
At least 2 years prior supervisory experience in the accounting/financial area.
Thorough knowledge of GAAP and statutory accounting principles, practices, and procedures.
Experience preparing financial statements with knowledge of how to interpret the results.
Ability to take direction from supervisors, contribute to departmental discussions and problem solve.
Must have experience working in a fast-past environment.
Must be strong in initiating system improvements and have good customer service.
Must be detail oriented and have good organizational skills.
Strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
Medicaid experience/billing a plus.
